Mrs. Damita Jo Hill Newson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Sister Damita Jo Hill Newson was born October 8, 1975 in Monroe, Louisiana to bless the union of Joe Louis Howard and Barbara Hill. “Mita” , as she was affectionately called by her family and friends, confessed a hope in Christ at an early awge and joined the Union Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorage of Rev. Frank L. Holden. There, she sang in the choir. She spent her early years in the Henderson Project Community and attended the schools of East Carroll and Madison Parishes. She was a graduate of Tallulah High School and attended Hinds Community College wanting to become a nurse. About 1996, she united in Holy Matrimony with Bakari Newson and to this union a daughter was born. Shortly after, Damita moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma for a brief period of time. After returning to Vicksburg, Mississippi, she was employed by Tyson Foods for more than 10 years, wanting to be the best she could be to her children. She never forgot her roots, recommitted her life to Christ and again joined Union Baptist where she was a faithful member until her demise. After a brief illness, Damita received the Master’s call to come home and quietly passed away August 24th, 2016 at Merit Health River Region Hospital in Vicksburg, Mississippi. “Mita” was a strong woman, with a quiet, humble spirit. She often greeted others with a warm smile. To know Damita was to love her.
